The School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy (SEMTE) at Arizona State University is seeking a dedicated Academic Success Retention Coordinator focused on undergraduate student retention. This position plays a key role in supporting student success through academic advising, retention initiatives, and coordination of ASU 101-SEM courses. The coordinator will serve as the unit’s expert on retention strategies, systems, and processes.
Position Salary Range: $58,000 -$63,500 per year; D.O.E.

As the lead institution for the Center for Accelerating Operational Efficiency, we enhance homeland security operations through advanced tools and technologies. Additionally, we lead an NSF Engineering Research Center developing sustainable civil infrastructure and partner with another ERC advancing clean water technology.

Essential Duties
Academic Advising
- Provide individualized and group advising to online and campus-based SEMTE undergraduate students via in-person, phone, email, and Zoom.
- Support student success and timely graduation by addressing academic concerns and making appropriate referrals to university resources.
- Provide administrative support related to student enrollment, registration, orientation, retention and degree completion while maintaining comprehensive and accurate student records using a variety of software and data sources.
- Utilize advising tools and software to monitor progress and support student success.
- Support students to resolve challenges by having current knowledge and making appropriate referrals to ASU services including, but not limited to, Student Health, ASU Counseling Services and the Fulton Career Center.
- Consult with program chairs, faculty, colleagues and students to support FSE students to proceed efficiently through their curriculum and navigate setbacks.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records and communications.
- Oversee the implementation of university, FSE and SEMTE retention initiatives.
- Identify students at risk of leaving the major or college and develop targeted outreach strategies.
- Analyze retention data using university systems such as Analytics and Salesforce.
- Manage SEMTE Salesforce Advisor Portal activity by reviewing cases regularly and following up with advising team as needed.
- Coordinate and implement workshops on retention related strategies or theories to support and foster professional development.
- Partner with the Associate Director in Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) to design and implement retention campaigns and follow-up plans.
- Train advisors on retention systems, tools, and best practices.
- Identify students at‐risk for leaving the major or college. Develop programming to proactively manage these student situations.
- Develop transition advising strategies to support students changing majors or transferring into/out of SEMTE.
- Compose an annual report detailing retention efforts, trends in data, and visuals to provide a summary of year‐over-year student persistence.
- Organize and participate in ASU and FSE initiatives and efforts aimed at recruiting, engaging and retaining FSE students.
- Coordinate 50 sections of ASU 101 for SEMTE. Ensure an appropriate number of ASU 101 sections are offered each semester to accommodate all freshmen students and each section is staffed with an ASU 101 section leader, advisor, and faculty.
- Coordinate ASU 101 schedule and course content with SEMTE program chairs. Ensure that curriculum for the course is being followed by faculty, advisors, and section leaders.
- Communicate with faculty all expectations for ASU 101-SEM and follow up with faculty as needed regarding any issues or changes to the course.
- Lead 3-5 advising sessions in ASU 101-SEM each semester.
- Experience building and modifying Canvas shells
- Experience giving presentations or leading first year success classes
- Experience advising undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds
- Experience advising students in STEM majors
- Experience running reports and using data to make informed decisions regarding student outreach and retention
- Experience working with at risk student populations
- Experience collaborating with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff, and students
- Experience with Salesforce (i.e. case management, advisor portal, reports).
- Experience using Analytics, MyReports and/or AWS and using data in Excel to make informed decisions and prepare reports for leadership.
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (25).
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
- This position receives regular review of objectives.
