Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor – Laser Systems Repair

Location: Oxford, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Exempt, Full-Time
Work Arrangement: 100% On-Site

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor to lead a team responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and return of laser systems. This critical role oversees repair-center operations, supports customer needs, drives continuous improvement, and ensures repairs are completed accurately, efficiently, and to high quality standards.

The ideal candidate brings strong technical troubleshooting experience with lasers, photonics, or other sophisticated capital equipment, along with proven leadership, organization, and customer-service skills.

Key Responsibilities

Supervisory Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of repair technicians to achieve performance, quality, and turnaround-time goals.
  • Monitor team performance metrics, identify improvement opportunities, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, customer-focused culture centered on responsiveness, accuracy, and high-quality repairs.
  • Prioritize work, delegate assignments effectively, and ensure resources are aligned with operational needs.
Repair Center Operations

  • Manage daily repair-center operations, including product diagnosis, repair activities, spare-parts inventory, and timely completion of repairs.
  • Partner with technical experts and engineers to troubleshoot complex product issues and develop effective repair solutions.
  • Establish and maintain quality-control processes to ensure repaired products meet internal standards and customer expectations.
  • Maintain technical knowledge, repair documentation, and product know-how for assigned laser systems.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal colleagues regarding assigned products.
Customer and Service Support

  • Provide direct customer communication, repair-status updates, and support for customer escalations.
  • Coordinate service-related activities, including warranty claims, product replacements, and service-contract requirements.
  • Ensure service activities, documentation, and processes comply with applicable policies, procedures, and industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product development, quality, and other cross-functional teams to address recurring product issues and improve reliability.
  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives that increase service efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, technical degree, or equivalent hands-on technical experience.
  • Three to five years of field-service, repair, or technical-support experience involving lasers, photonics, or other advanced capital equipment.
  • Prior supervisory, team-lead, customer-support, or technical-support management experience preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technical aptitude and understanding of product design, engineering principles, and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills, with an emphasis on teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, technicians, engineers, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical, data-driven approach to identifying trends and improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong customer-service mindset and commitment to delivering high-quality support.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual communication platforms.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to move throughout office, manufacturing, warehouse, and customer environments.
  • Ability to travel domestically, including extended periods of sitting during transportation.
Work Environment

  • This is a fully on-site position.
  • Work is primarily performed in a service repair-depot environment, with occasional work in office, warehouse, and production settings.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment may be required when working in operational areas.
Compensation

Massachusetts Pay Range: $70,550–$97,359 annually

Actual starting compensation will be based on relevant skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. This position may also be eligible for additional compensation, such as an annual discretionary or sales bonus, as applicable.
