Brief Summary:

The Community Prevention Coordinator serves as a community point of contact for ASNA Social Services. The individual assists in coordination of primary and secondary prevention activities. The Community Prevention Coordinator will support existing ASNA Social Services programs and may provide the contact to other entities but does not represent those entities.

 

Essential Job Functions:

·         Serve as a point of contact for social services staff/programs to provide outreach to and feedback from the community.

·         Assist in organizing and facilitating workshops, seminars, or presentations on prevention.

·         Act as a point of contact to distribute informational materials in the community.

·         Build and maintain trusting relationships with community members, leaders, schools, and local organizations.

·         Provide communication from the community wants/needs regarding prevention initiatives.

·         Assist in planning and promoting community events related to health and safety.

·         Help coordinate logistics for programs and events, including space, materials, and participants.

·         Help train community volunteers or peer leaders to support prevention initiatives.

·         Assist as necessary in secondary prevention engagement, such as initial screening and identification of at-risk individuals in need of support.

·         Works closely with tribes, tribal members, and staff as needed to assist in coordination of services.

·         Collaborates with other Social Services Departments to ensure the safety of children and accurate referrals are being made for both Tribal and State cases.

·         Assures confidentiality of client information.

·         Adhere to professional ethics of Social Work in working with families, co-workers, community members, State Federal agencies and others.

·         Conducts outreach to villages served by providing trainings and education to the community.

·         Reports abuse and neglect to the State of Alaska following the requirements of a mandated reporter.

·         Will provide supervision as directed or needed.

Education & Experience:

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         One year of experience working with/in Tribal Organizations, preferred.

 

Computer Skills:

Computer literacy required; knowledge of Microsoft and Office. Demonstrate proficient use of basic office equipment.
