What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Human Resources Generalist position at Archway Group?
About The Role
Archway Group is looking for a Senior Human Resources Generalist to serve as the primary HR presence in our Indianapolis office. This is a high-ownership role that requires someone who is equally comfortable navigating complex employee situations, coordinating a full recruiting cycle, and managing the day-to-day operational backbone of HR — all with a high degree of independence. You will report to the Head of People Operations in Denver, and you will be the go-to HR resource for Indianapolis employees and leadership. The right person for this role is someone who takes ownership naturally, brings structure to ambiguity, and is energized by being the go-to resource for an entire office. Over the first several months, you’ll play a key role in stabilizing and formalizing the HR function alongside the team before taking on a defined long term scope.
What You’ll Do
Employee Relations
Archway Group offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.

What You’ll Do
Employee Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations matters in Indianapolis — handling concerns, conflicts, and sensitive situations with discretion and sound judgment
- Partner with managers on performance issues, disciplinary actions, and difficult conversations — providing guidance that is both practical and compliant
- Navigate accommodation requests, leave situations, and other complex cases
- Maintain thorough documentation on all ER matters and escalate appropriately
- Own recruiting coordination across active roles — serving as the operational hub between hiring managers, outsourced recruiters, and candidates
- Manage interview scheduling, candidate communications, and offer logistics from screen through close
- Ensure a consistent, professional candidate experience and a smooth handoff from offer acceptance to onboarding
- Partner with the Head of People Operations on recruiting strategy and process improvements
- Manage people administrative tasks including maintaining accurate employee data in Paycom — processing new hires, terminations, promotions, leaves, and status changes
- Lead onboarding for new Indianapolis-based hires including paperwork, I-9s, background checks, IT coordination, and orientation
- Own the offboarding process for departing employees, ensuring a consistent and compliant experience from notice through final day
- Support People team projects by taking ownership of specific work streams, building process documentation, and sharing knowledge across the team
- Apply working knowledge of employment law to identify compliance risks and flag issues proactively
- 5–8 years of progressive HR experience in a generalist capacity — you’ve seen enough to know what good looks like and have the scar tissue to prove it
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously — you manage your own priorities, make sound judgment calls without being prompted, and are comfortable being the only HR person in the room
- Hands-on employee relations experience — you’ve navigated real situations, not just read about them, and you know how to balance empathy with objectivity
- Experience coordinating recruiting operations — scheduling, candidate communications, and working effectively with external recruiting partners
- Experience with an HRIS platform — Paycom a strong plus
- Working knowledge of federal and multi-state employment law including FMLA, ADA, and FLSA
- Strong attention to detail and high standards for accuracy in your own work
- Clear, confident communicator who can partner with employees, managers, and senior leadership alike
- A builder mindset — energized by creating structure and documentation where it doesn’t yet exist
- Familiarity with Indiana and/or Colorado employment law a plus
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification a plus
- Work model: Hybrid
- Office Location: Indianapolis, IN
- Onsite Expectations: 3 days a week – Tuesday, Wednesday, and a flexible 3rd day
