Housekeeping Job Description – Long‑Term Care Nursing Home
Position: Housekeeper Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping Status: Full-Time or Part-Time Pay Rate: $14.00 per hour Reports To: Housekeeping Supervisor
Position Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, staff, and visitors in a long‑term care nursing home. This role supports infection control, resident comfort, and overall facility quality standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clean resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces according to facility standards
Perform daily cleaning tasks including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces
Change bed linens, make beds, and restock resident room supplies
Empty trash and dispose of waste following infection‑control procedures
Clean and sanitize high‑touch surfaces to reduce risk of illness
Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, and supply closets in an organized manner
Report maintenance or safety issues promptly
Follow all facility policies, including safety, infection control, and confidentiality
Provide respectful, courteous interactions with residents and families
Assist with deep cleaning projects as assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous housekeeping experience in healthcare, hospitality, or similar setting is helpful but not required
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Strong attention to detail and reliability
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe environment for vulnerable residents
Work Environment
Long‑term care nursing home setting
Exposure to cleaning chemicals (with proper PPE provided)
