Software Developer III

Role Summary

Leidos is seeking a Software Development III to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector, supporting the development of the Leidos Common Automation Platform (L-CAP) for the Leidos common baseline program. This role focuses on developing microservices-based applications in an Agile / SAFe environment while supporting a mission-critical, hybrid cloud data mesh automation platform.

Position Type: Hybrid, Leidos site

Schedule: 40 hours/week, typical 9-5 schedule

Assignment Type: Temporary with possible FTE conversion

Target Start Date: 05/26/2026

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using modern software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, systems engineering, product delivery, DevSecOps, QA, platform, and program teams.
• Participate in sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Translate requirements into working software solutions.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and testable code following CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
• Contribute to system design discussions and technical decision-making.
• Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.
• Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.

Required Technical Skills

• Agile experience.
• AI / AI Assistants coding.
• C .
• Hands-on experience building and supporting microservices-based systems.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Python, C , or similar, on a Linux-based system.
• Understanding of APIs and distributed system concepts.
• Experience working in Agile environments.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Microservice skills.
• Java.
• Experience or exposure to AI/ML-enabled systems, including Claude-Code, automation, or intelligent platforms.
• Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
• Relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Kafka or other event-streaming technologies.
• Cloud experience: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Containerization and orchestration experience: Docker, Kubernetes.
• DevSecOps environments.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 2-4 years of professional software development experience.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Public Trust eligible; can start contingent.
• Clearance/access may be obtained post-hire.
• Background investigation required by the government customer.

About the Team / Company

This role supports an Agile development team pod of approximately 6-7 people. The work environment is fast-paced, involves frequent change, and is suited for a self-starter who can operate effectively in a challenging environment.
