Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced IT Architect / Technical Lead with deep expertise in Emerson / AspenTech Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Outage Management System (OMS) implementations. This role will lead the architecture, design, integration, configuration, and support of Digital Grid Management (DGM) solutions within utility control center environments.
This is a key leadership role responsible for driving end-to-end ADMS/OMS solution delivery, ensuring seamless integration with utility systems, and supporting real-time grid operations, outage management, and digital transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end architecture and technical design for ADMS/OMS implementations, including SCADA, DMS, OMS, and integrations with GIS, AMI, Distribution Automation, SAP, SOM, and other enterprise systems.
- Define control center configurations, system topologies, high-availability architectures, and disaster recovery strategies aligned with utility client needs and industry/vendor best practices.
- Support the delivery of ADMS, OMS, and/or DERMS projects across solution design, configuration, system integration, testing, commissioning, and go-live support.
- Lead and support ADMS/OMS configuration, including outage job functionality from call intake, job creation, closure, and reporting.
- Manage data modeling and migration from legacy OMS platforms to new OMS environments.
- Lead integration of ADMS/OMS with existing utility systems to ensure accurate data flow, operational reliability, and grid visibility.
- Conduct technical workshops, validate solution designs, and oversee configuration activities such as:
- OMS prediction rules
- ETR matrices
- Crew management
- Outage assist displays
- Oversee configuration, testing, and commissioning of Emerson/AspenTech ADMS/OMS solutions to ensure accurate modeling of real-time power system conditions.
- Provide technical leadership to project teams by mentoring developers, coordinating with stakeholders, and guiding technical execution.
- Collaborate with clients and vendors to gather requirements, evaluate systems, support procurement, and ensure compatibility across platforms.
- Develop and execute QA/test plans to validate system functionality, performance, and compliance with utility/industry standards.
- Create technical documentation, architecture diagrams, standards, security controls, procedures, and long-term roadmaps.
- Ensure solutions incorporate cybersecurity best practices, NERC CIP compliance (where applicable), scalability for DER growth, and real-time operational performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to ADMS/OMS implementations.
- Identify opportunities to enhance grid automation capabilities, including integration with DERMS and other advanced digital grid technologies.
Required Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with Emerson / AspenTech ADMS/OMS implementations
- Strong expertise in Emerson / AspenTech Digital Grid Management (DGM) platform, especially Monarch-based systems
- Proven experience in system architecture, design, implementation, and testing within utility control center environments
- Hands-on experience with:
- ADMS/OMS configuration
- Data migration
- Interface / integration development
- Strong integration experience with:
- SCADA
- GIS
- SAP
- SOM
- Other utility enterprise systems
- Familiarity with REST APIs, microservices architecture, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Strong understanding of utility IT/OT integration
- Experience with high-availability environments and disaster recovery planning
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for IoT and cloud-connected utility systems
- Understanding of NERC CIP compliance (where applicable)
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Emerson / AspenTech certification or equivalent experience as a Delivery Service Provider (DSP) for DGM solutions
- Prior experience supporting utility ADMS/OMS implementations
- Exposure to additional utility systems such as:
- SOM
- EMS
- DERMS
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies
- Experience in fast-paced, collaborative project environments
- Exposure to data analytics or machine learning in utility/energy applications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
- Equivalent additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- 7 years of hands-on experience as an Architect in Emerson/AspenTech ADMS/OMS implementations
- 4 years of hands-on experience as a Technical Lead
- Proven ability to lead technical teams and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
