Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture
Location: On-site Birmingham, AL; 5 days/ week (Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship)
About the Role:
We are seeking a strategic and visionary Senior Director of Enterprise Architecture to lead our enterprise architecture function and drive technology strategy across the organization. In this executive leadership role, you will align technology initiatives with business objectives, enable digital transformation, and establish a scalable, future-ready architecture that supports long-term growth.
As a trusted advisor to executive leadership, you will define enterprise architecture standards, influence strategic technology decisions, and lead a high-performing architecture team while fostering innovation and optimizing technology investments.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and govern the enterprise architecture strategy aligned with business objectives and digital transformation initiatives.
- Establish and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, and frameworks across applications, data, infrastructure, and integration.
- Create technology roadmaps that align IT capabilities with business strategy.
- Lead architecture reviews for key initiatives, ensuring compliance with standards and evaluating build vs. buy decisions.
- Partner with executive leadership as a strategic technology advisor.
- Champion modern architecture practices, including cloud technologies, microservices, API-first integration, and AI enablement.
- Drive application portfolio rationalization, reduce technical debt, and optimize enterprise technology platforms.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and manage strategic technology vendor relationships.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Enterprise and Solution Architects.
- Provide architectural oversight for enterprise programs, mitigating technical risks and ensuring successful delivery.
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 15 years of progressive IT experience.
- 7 years of leadership experience in Enterprise Architecture.
- Proven success developing enterprise technology strategy, governance, and architecture at scale.
Technical Expertise
- Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, or similar)
- Cloud platforms and cloud transformation
- Microservices and API-driven architecture
- Enterprise integration patterns
- Business capability modeling and process architecture
- IT portfolio management and governance
- AI/ML technologies and enterprise adoption strategies
- Risk management and technology governance
Leadership Skills
- Executive-level communication and stakeholder management
