Position Details
- Location: Beaufort, SC
- Pay: $25.26/hour
- Schedule: 34 hours per week (Monday-Thursday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Friday 8:30am-12:30pm
What You'll Do
As a Paralegal, you will provide legal support to attorneys in Family Court matters involving child protection, foster care, adoption, child daycare, and adult protective services.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepare pleadings, motions, notices, proposed orders, and other legal documents for attorney review.
- Maintain case files and update information within the Legal Case Management System (LCMS).
- Organize and prepare Family Court cases, ensuring all required documentation and parties are properly served.
- File legal documents with the Clerk of Court and coordinate the distribution of court orders.
- Attend Family Court hearings and trials, maintaining detailed notes regarding testimony, evidence, attendance, and court rulings.
- Research legal issues and assist in preparing briefs, discovery requests, and motions.
- Gather and organize witness statements, reports, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
- Serve as a liaison between attorneys, agency staff, Family Court personnel, and law enforcement partners.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Paralegal or in a legal support role.
- Strong document preparation, organization, and case management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
- Experience working in Family Court, child welfare, government, or public sector legal environments is highly preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Occasional local travel to the courthouse to deliver or retrieve legal documents (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Must be comfortable working a 34-hour work week within the office hours of 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
