Primary Purpose of Position

Care and nurture young children; supervise App State college students in caring for young children.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school and one year of related childcare experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Essential Job Functions

Establish a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that will meet the individual needs of each child.

Responsible for instruction and supervision of young children.

Use Creative Curriculum, emergent curriculum, and NC Foundations for Early Learning as the basis for assisting with planning and implementing classroom activities and experiences.

Assist with the documentation of children's development and learning.

Contributing to the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans based on children's interests.

Ability to collect/record routine information effectively in written form regarding child development, progress reports, and observations.

Keep up-to-date on current issues and trends in the field of early childhood education by attending conferences/workshops/training and through professional memberships.

Meet requirements mandated by the NC DCDEE and environmental rating scales.

Responsible for guiding aides in assisting with the implementation of lesson plans and delivering educational activities.

Provide feedback to co-workers and families on developmental progress of children and program reminders on a daily/weekly basis.

Ensure that children are supervised at all times and ratios are maintained.

Ensure completion of required governmental and facility forms.

Upkeep and cleanliness of the classroom areas, kitchen duties, laundry and other health department requirements.

Have knowledge of and be able to recognize common symptoms of childhood illness. Record and document any incidents that occur.

Ability to provide preventative/corrective measures, respond to, and record/document first aid occurrences as needed.

Assist in Emergency Drills, making sure that children are safe, secure, and assured in case of emergency. Responsible for having all emergency information in possession in case of evacuation. Inform aides of policy and procedures for classroom drills.

Collaborate with approved community resources to enhance delivery of quality educational services to children and families.

Work with intervention specialists to provide inclusive environments for all children, supporting educational plans for individual children.

Ability to provide effective and professional verbal and written feedback to parents regarding daily interactions.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

Priority for having Early Childhood Education Credential. Knowledge of and able to recognize common symptoms of illness. Ability to plan and implement lesson plans. Communicate effectively with aides and parents. Delegate responsibilities. Maintain classroom to meet ECERS qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or related field.

At least two years of preschool teaching experience in a licensed child care facility.

Previous full-time experience.

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.

Safety: Ability to perform routine checks to ensure facilities are free of safety hazards. Ability to provide preventive care, first aid, and medication as directed.

Child Care and Instruction: Ability to provide basic physical care of children under regular supervision. Ability to report socialization and behavioral teaching needs to leadership.

Communication: Ability to provide effective verbal feedback to parents regarding daily interactions. Ability to collects/records routine information effectively in written form regarding daily interactions.
