Emergency Veterinarian - ER Mentor

Apex Vets is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinarian to serve as an ER Mentor within our Emergency & Critical Care team. 

This role is designed for a doctor who is confident in emergency medicine and interested in supporting the development of less experienced ER doctors through case guidance, feedback, and on-shift mentorship.

• Strong experience in emergency medicine  

• Confidence managing complex and critical cases independently  

• Interest in mentoring and developing other doctors  

• Ability to provide clear, constructive clinical guidance  

• Willingness to participate in a shared weekend rotation  

• Strong communication and teamwork skills  

What You’ll Do 

• Manage a full ER caseload including triage, diagnostics, and treatment  

• Provide real-time support and guidance to ER doctors on shift  

• Assist with clinical decision-making and case management  

• Support development of newer or less experienced ER doctors  

• Perform emergency procedures (e.g., centeses, CPR, wound repair)  

• Interpret diagnostics including bloodwork, radiographs, and ultrasound  

• Maintain accurate and timely medical records  

• Communicate clearly with clients and referring veterinarians

Schedule 

• Combination of weekday, evening, and overnight shifts  

• Shared weekend rotation required  

Qualifications 

• DVM/VMD from an accredited institution  

• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Maryland  

• Significant emergency experience required
