Job#: 3031343
Job Description:
Apex Systems, a World-Class Technology Solutions Provider, is seeking applicants for the below position on behalf of our client. Please apply if interested and qualified. Please note that only qualified candidates will be contacted.
Position: Business Operations Analyst
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 12 Month Contract
Position Overview:
The Energy and Emissions Finance Lead is the person who figures out how much money the company spends, and will spend, to reduce its environmental impact and to follow environmental laws.
This role sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and sustainability. The person translates complex environmental rules and ship operations into clear financial numbers that leadership can understand and act on.
In everyday terms, this person answers questions like:
How much does it cost to run ships in a cleaner, more environmentally friendly way
How much money do we need to budget for emissions, carbon credits, and shore power
Are we meeting environmental regulations and goals without overspending
What will new environmental rules cost us in the future
They help the company plan ahead financially so it can reduce emissions, stay compliant with global regulations, and avoid unexpected costs or penalties.
They track costs related to carbon emissions, carbon credits required by governments, and shore power, which is when ships plug into local power instead of running engines while in port.
They create detailed spreadsheets and models to predict future costs related to fuel, emissions, and environmental regulations. These forecasts help leadership make decisions months or years in advance.
They oversee a budget of more than 50 million dollars related to emissions and energy. Making sure money is spent wisely and according to plan is a major responsibility.
At the end of each month, they make sure all environmental and emissions related costs are recorded correctly in the company’s financial system.
They turn complicated data into clear summaries and dashboards, often using Power BI, and present insights to executives so leaders understand what is going well, what is not, and what actions to take.
This job requires constant collaboration. The person works closely with:
Ship operations teams to understand how ships run and use energy
Finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate reporting
Legal and compliance teams to understand environmental rules
Corporate responsibility teams focused on sustainability goals
Senior leaders who set strategy and approve budgets
They act as a bridge between technical ship operations and high-level financial decision making.
Governments around the world charge companies for carbon emissions or require them to buy carbon allowances. These rules change often and vary by region.
This role keeps track of those rules, figures out what they mean financially, and ensures the company is prepared. In simple terms, they make sure the company does not get caught off guard by new environmental costs.
Skills needed:
Strong Excel skills because most forecasts and models live in spreadsheets
Ability to analyze large amounts of data and spot trends
Comfort explaining complex information to non-technical leaders
Strong organization and time management since there are many moving parts
Curiosity and problem solving because regulations and strategies keep evolving
Coding and data tools are a plus because they help automate analysis and improve reporting.
What success looks like in this role
The company stays compliant with environmental laws
Leadership clearly understands costs and risks related to emissions
Budgets are accurate and controlled
Environmental goals are met in a financially responsible way
There are no surprises from unexpected regulatory or emissions related costs
This role ensures the company understands, plans for, and controls the financial impact of reducing emissions and complying with environmental regulations, while clearly communicating that impact to leadership.
