The Summer Youth Sports Coach supports Apex Park and Recreation District’s seasonal youth sports programs by teaching fundamental skills, promoting teamwork, and ensuring a positive, inclusive experience for participants. This position exists to provide safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate sports instruction for youth ages 5–14 during summer programming.
Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity.

- Plan and lead age-appropriate practices, drills, and games to teach fundamental skills in assigned sports (daily).
- Supervise participants to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive environment.
- Model and reinforce good sportsmanship, teamwork, and positive behavior.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding schedules and expectations.
- Set up, inspect, and take down program equipment.
- Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and skill levels of participants.
- Report attendance, incidents, and equipment needs to the program supervisor.
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Prior experience working with children or coaching youth preferred.
- Basic knowledge of rules, skills, and safety considerations for common youth sports.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and encourage children.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate patience, and create an inclusive environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as program schedules require.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks.
- Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment.
