The Summer Camp Director at Camp Apex is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and daily operation of Camp Apex, ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality camp experience for all participants. The Director oversees staff supervision, program planning, camper safety, and compliance with Colorado Department of Early Childhood child care licensing rules and regulations.
 
The Camp Director serves as the on-site leader responsible for maintaining compliance with licensing standards, staff supervision, camper well-being, and the implementation of camp policies and procedures. Camp Apex is located at the Apex Center and is designed for ages 5-10. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management
  • Plan, organize, and implement daily and weekly camp programming including swimming, ice skating, rock climbing, archery, arts and crafts, and field trips.
  • Ensure activities are developmentally appropriate and engaging for school-age children.
  • Maintain a structured yet flexible camp schedule that promotes inclusion, teamwork, and fun.
 
Licensing Compliance
  • Ensure the camp operates in compliance with Colorado Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations.
  • Maintain required documentation including incident reports, attendance records, medication logs, and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain staff-to-camper ratios at all times.
  • Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers.
 
Camper Safety and Behavior Management
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies.
  • Address camper incidents, conflicts, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding camper needs, incidents, or concerns.
 
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate camper enrollment and attendance records.
  • Track supplies and equipment needed for camp activities.
  • Assist with program registration and enrollment processes.
  • Ensure all camp paperwork and documentation meets licensing requirements and is completed in ePACT.
 
Communication
  • Respond to parent questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with recreation staff and facility leadership to support program operations.
  • Provide updates and reports to Recreation Manager regarding camp operations.
  • Must be 21 years old.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's License, appropriate insurance coverage, and a clean driving record for the past 3 years.
  • Have the ability to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Must complete up to 15 hours of training before May 29, 2026
  • Experience caring for children ages 5 to 10 years in a public atmosphere.
  • Must have customer service experience and good conflict management skills.
  • Knowledge of youth games, activities, and arts and crafts.
  • Ability to be on your feet for 6-8 hours and lift 40 pounds.
  • The associate is expected to exhibit the district's core values of Honesty, Attitude, Loyalty and Teamwork.
  • Will receive CPR/First aid, Medication Administration, and Universal Precautions certifications request within 90 days of hire.
At least one of the following qualifications: 
 a. A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with a major area of study in one (1) of the following areas: (1) Child Development (2) Psychology (3) Early Childhood Education (4) Early Childhood Special Education (5) Elementary Education (6) Elementary Special Education (7) Family and Human Development (8) Family Studies (9) Special Education (10) Outdoor Education (11) Recreation (12) Human Services ; or
 
 b. An associate’s degree or sixty (60) semester credit hours from an accredited college or university and three (3) months (455 hours) of experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual; or
 
 c. Twenty-one (21) months (3,185 hours)) of, experience in the care and supervision of four (4) or more children over the ages of four (4) years who are not related to the individual and one of the following qualifications: (1) Completion of six (6) semester hours, from a regionally accredited college or university; or (2) Completion of forty (40) clock hours of training in course work applicable to school-age children within the first nine months in the director position. The 40 clock hours of training cannot include any of the required trainings as listed in rule section 2.508; or,
 
 d. A current early childhood professional credential level II (2) or higher in version 3.0 as determined by the Department based on its Early Childhood Professional Credential 3.0 Worksheet.
  • Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity.
  • Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings.
  • The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, chemically treated water, or other environmental irritants.
  • Work may occur in environments with poor acoustics, distractions, or high activity levels.
  • Occasional travel by vehicle may be required, with exposure to traffic, road construction, and varying road conditions.
  • Some tasks will be performed in wet, humid, or damp environments, such as pools or aquatic facilities.
Physical Activities:
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks.
  • Ability to reach, grasp, and handle small objects, tools, or equipment with precision.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, or maneuver in tight spaces to complete maintenance or activity-related tasks.
  • Requires adequate hearing to recognize and respond to sounds, signals, or distress in a variety of environments.
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination while assisting with physical activities or working on uneven terrain.
  • Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, or stooping for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to monitor participants, ensure safety, and respond to signals or emergencies.
  • Ability to react quickly and appropriately to the physical needs or emergencies of children or participants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking loudly, when necessary, in noisy or outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work most of the day on your feet, performing both active supervision and hands-on tasks.
