Overview
Under the general direction of the Expressive Arts Team Leader, the Art Therapist is responsible for the planning and implementation of an on-going program of art activities designed to meet the interest and the physical, mental, psychological, and spiritual needs of each client in the mental health and substance abuse (Detox) inpatient programs and the Leon campus residential programs.
The Art Therapist implements art activities to help individuals manage their illnesses, traumatic experiences, life challenges, and/or other stressors. The art therapist will help facilitate progress towards clinical goals such as sensory stimulation, improved self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-confidence, positive expression, appropriate socialization, cooperation, mood regulation, etc. Examples of activities include painting, sketching, illustration, drawing, and creating objects using facility-approved materials.

Essential/Core Job-specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Plans and implements group/individual therapeutic art activities of appropriate duration and frequency on EPH, PATH, Detox, Children’s unit and Residential programs in accordance with treatment plans and unit activity schedules.
- Completes daily progress notes to reflect service provision and clinical response/outcome for each client participant in accordance with charting/clinical record handbook specifications.
- Artistic ability.
- Designs art therapy interventions relevant to client’s age, culture, language, background, and preferences that address client goals and objectives based on available research, clinical expertise, and the needs, values, and preferences of the client.
- Uses appropriate equipment consistent with treatment needs consistent with art therapy goals and clients’ learning styles (e.g., adaptive devices, visual aids, etc.).
Salary : $22 - $24
