DEFINITION: Under general supervision, assists staff with a wide variety of services for special needs and handicapped students; performs training and duties involving immediate contact and close supervision of pupils; may perform clerical duties of average difficulty; performs related duties as required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: One year previous exposure to persons with special needs. General clerical experience. Education: Completion of twelfth grade or equivalent. Achieve and maintain current American Red Cross Community CPR and Safety certification. Knowledge: Problems related to needs of special needs students; safety practices and procedures for working with both handicapped and non-handicapped populations; typing, filing, and modern office methods. Ability to: Understand the needs of people and pupils and possess a genuine ability and willingness to work with persons who are ill, injured, in pain, and/or physically handicapped; excellent communication skills and tact dealing with a variety of health conditions. Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults; understand, follow, and carry out oral and written instructions. Perform general clerical work and use correct English, spell, grammar, and punctuation. Language: Bilingual ability preferred.
