A Director of Inventory Planning in supply chain is a senior leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing inventory strategies that align with business goals, demand forecasts, and operational efficiency. This position bridges planning, procurement, and operations to ensure optimal stock levels, reduce costs, and improve service levels
Core Responsibilities
- Develop and execute inventory strategy: Define safety stock levels, replenishment rules, and policies across multiple channels and distribution centers
- Lead cross-functional teams: Oversee inventory planners, analysts, and operations staff; mentor and develop talent
- Integrate with S&OP/IBP cycles: Collaborate with sales, marketing, finance, and procurement to align inventory plans with demand forecasts and financial targets
- Leverage analytics and ERP/MRP systems: Use advanced planning tools to forecast demand, optimize stock, and respond to market changes
- Drive operational excellence: Reduce obsolescence, improve cash flow, and enhance customer satisfaction through accurate inventory management
- Risk and cost management: Minimize stockouts and overstocking while mitigating supply chain risks
Skills and Experience
- Strategic planning: Proven track record in supply chain planning, demand planning, and inventory optimization.
