Position Summary
The Coder is responsible for accurately assigning medical codes to gastroenterology procedures and diagnoses to ensure proper billing, reimbursement, and compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes
- Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and payer requirements
- Communicate with providers regarding documentation clarification
- Support audit readiness and coding accuracy
- Assist with denial prevention and correction
Required Qualifications
- Coding certification preferred (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
- Prior medical coding experience required
- Gastroenterology coding experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of medical coding systems
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Understanding of GI procedures and terminology
- Analytical thinking
- Strong communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Sedentary computer-based work
- Extended screen time
Work Environment
Office-based revenue cycle environment within a specialty medical practice.
