This announcement will be used to fill the Full-Time, Permanent, Safety-Sensitive, Represented position of Roads Maintenance Crew Leader the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Highways, Traffic Maintenance Division.
This is semi-skilled or skilled work in the general maintenance, repair, and limited construction of roadways, culverts, and related work.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for scheduling work and assigning tasks to subordinate skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers engaged in a wide variety of maintenance, repair, and limited construction activities of County roads.
Work is performed with a considerable degree of independence; however, assistance is received from a supervisor on the more complex assignments.
Work is reviewed by a superior through observation, conferences, and results obtained.
Positions in this class may be required to lift or cause to be lifted tools, machinery or equipment weighing up to 1500 pounds.
Work of this class is performed outside in all types of weather conditions, and employees may be exposed to dirty conditions, noxious odors and loud noises.
Employees may be required to wear a variety of safety equipment as determined by the area of work assignment.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. They are not intended to include all of the essential job functions of all positions in the class).
Leads and participates in the work of a moderate-sized crew engaged in the maintenance, repair, and limited construction of roads, storm drains, tree care services, traffic signs, pavement markings, and related appurtenances.
Maintains various records such as time, location, and effectiveness of work performed; assists in the in-service training of employees; promotes instruction in safety and improved work procedures and methods.
Confers verbally and in written communication with contractors, engineers, property owners, and other interested parties; explains and interprets regulations, tree laws, and specifications. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the practices, materials, tools, equipment, and processes of the area of assignment.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment, and of the safety precautions applicable to the work.
Ability to lay out and lead the work of subordinate equipment operators and general laboring employees performing various maintenance, repair, and limited construction tasks in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to maintain effective public service with a minimum of interruption to public convenience.
Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instruction, grade and line stakes, and routine engineering drawings.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, other employees, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.Education: Graduation from high school or vocational school.
Experience: Four (4) or more years experience in maintenance, repair, and construction work.

NOTE: Longevity pay is available based on years of service.Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following:
1. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
2. Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic signs and pavement markings in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

- A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
- This position requires a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL). Candidates that do not possess this license must obtain it within six (6) months of employment.

Salary : $50,981 - $82,035
