Experienced part time kennel assistant

Job Overview
Join our dedicated team as an Experienced Part-Time Kennel Assistant and play a vital role in providing exceptional care for our animal residents. This energetic position offers a rewarding opportunity to work closely with animals, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. You will support kennel operations, assist with animal handling, and contribute to a positive environment for both pets and staff. Hours are Mon 8 a.m. to noon, Friday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and two trips on weekends (1 trip a.m. and 1 trip p.m. on Saturday and Sunday to care for pets) 3 weekends per month. You may be required to work some holidays and be asked to fill in when staff is on vacation.

Duties

• Assist with cleaning and maintaining kennels, ensuring a hygienic environment for all animals.
• Handle animals safely and confidently, including dogs (of all sizes) and cats using proper restraint techniques
• Administer oral medications and treatments under veterinary supervision, following veterinary protocols.
• Support veterinary staff with basic animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, grooming, and monitoring health status
• Observe animals closely for signs of illness or distress, reporting any concerns promptly to veterinarian.
• Maintain accurate documentation of treatments, medications administered, and daily activities

Requirements

• Proven kennel experience and background in animal care environments
• Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and veterinary terminology
• Experience with animal handling, restraint techniques, and medication administration
• Familiarity with veterinary clinic operations is a plus
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting while maintaining attention to detail
• Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and veterinarians.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, lift heavy objects, and perform cleaning duties throughout the shift
