Mechanical Engineer – Mission-Critical Data Center Infrastructure

Andiamo is hiring on behalf of a client seeking talented Mechanical Engineers to help design and deliver next-generation hyperscale data center infrastructure. This opportunity is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, working across multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to projects that power some of the world's most demanding digital environments.

We are hiring professionals across multiple experience levels who are passionate about engineering excellence, innovation, and building highly reliable infrastructure systems at scale.

About The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role throughout the complete lifecycle of large-scale modular data center projects—from concept development and detailed engineering through manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operational support.

You will serve as a technical leader for mechanical systems and piping infrastructure, ensuring designs meet customer expectations, industry regulations, safety standards, and operational performance requirements. This role combines engineering design, technical review, manufacturing support, customer interaction, and field problem-solving in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Engineering Leadership

  • Review, validate, and approve engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation to support manufacturing and project execution.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, customer requirements, engineering standards, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in design reviews, planning sessions, and technical development meetings to support innovative infrastructure solutions.
  • Create and review engineering deliverables including equipment lists, valve schedules, piping line lists, mechanical equipment specifications, line sizing calculations, stress analyses, and flexibility studies.
  • Develop technical requisitions for mechanical systems, piping components, and supporting equipment.
  • Prepare material takeoffs (MTOs) and detailed bills of materials (BOMs) to support procurement and production activities.
  • Establish project-specific design criteria and verify engineering deliverables align with approved design bases and client requirements.

Piping Systems & Mechanical Infrastructure

  • Lead the design and evaluation of piping systems, including routing, support structures, specialty components, and critical mechanical equipment connections.
  • Perform or review pipe stress analyses and verify compliance with applicable design loads and operating conditions.
  • Provide piping load data and interface requirements to structural engineering teams.
  • Specify insulation systems, coatings, corrosion protection strategies, and mechanical support solutions.
  • Support fire suppression system design and integration within mission-critical facilities.
  • Review as-built documentation and validate final system performance against design intent.

Manufacturing, Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, and production phases.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams to address technical issues and improve constructability.
  • Support installation, startup, and commissioning efforts by diagnosing and resolving mechanical system challenges.
  • Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide technical guidance throughout construction activities.
  • Participate in field visits, commissioning events, and project reviews as required.

Vendor & Customer Engagement

  • Evaluate vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations during procurement activities.
  • Work directly with clients during design reviews, technical presentations, and project meetings.
  • Serve as a trusted engineering resource, ensuring customer questions and concerns are addressed professionally and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, consultants, and outsourced engineering partners to ensure project success.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reduce costs, enhance reliability, and optimize project delivery.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, engineering methodologies, and trends impacting data center infrastructure.
  • Recommend improvements that strengthen operational efficiency while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Apply advanced engineering judgment to resolve technically complex or unique project challenges.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. Related engineering disciplines may be considered with significant relevant experience.
  • 3–10 years of mechanical engineering and design experience, preferably supporting data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial plants, or complex infrastructure projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.
  • Ability to create engineering sketches, technical drawings, and design concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, fire suppression systems, and mechanical infrastructure design.
  • Experience supporting construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in dynamic project environments.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Technical Expertise

Successful candidates will have experience with many of the following:

  • Piping system design, routing, supports, stress analysis, and specialty components.
  • Cooling infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, valves, and fluid systems.
  • Direct and indirect evaporative cooling systems.
  • Mechanical control systems and HVAC-related equipment.
  • Acoustic considerations and equipment performance optimization.
  • Mechanical systems commonly found within hyperscale and high-density data center environments.
  • Collaboration with electrical and structural engineering disciplines.
  • Fast-track design-build projects and large-scale facility upgrades.
