POSITION OVERVIEW:
TITLE: Pest Control Technician
STATUS/FLSA: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
PAY GRADE: Campus Enhancement Services - Pest Control Technician
DIRECT REPORTS: Full-time ( ); Part-time ( )
SUPERVISOR: Grounds Facilities Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this classification is to establish and maintain a strong and effective pest and weed control program contributing towards a pest-free, safe and comfortable school environment that enhances educational success.
EDUCATION:
Completion of a high school diploma or GED (required).
EXPERIENCE:
No experience required
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
- REQUIRED: Valid South Carolina Driver’s License, License in the area of pesticide and herbicide application as required by the South Carolina Pesticide Act and other DHEC and EPA requirements.
- PREFERED: None
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Essential job duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties assigned.
- Coordinate all aspects of weed and pest control with adherence to SC Pesticide Act guidelines and using Integrated Pest Management.
- Lift and operate pesticide and herbicide sprayers and equipment.
- Apply pesticides to all areas of schools to include classrooms, offices, common areas, grounds, trees, cafeterias, and other District facilities.
- Expedite and process all work orders assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.
- Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance program including filling holes under sinks and in walls with foam sealant and preventative applications.
- Order, store, dispose, and document pesticides and herbicides and their application in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and county laws, directives, and policies.
- Remain available for emergency or unplanned events that may occur.
- Exercise discretion in discussions of infestations with other departmental staff, and submit complaints to supervisory staff.
- Repair, calibrate and maintain custodial equipment
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Maintain application records.
- Participate in staff development programs.
- Promote good public relations through professional and ethical execution of job responsibilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to measure and calibrate equipment applications of chemicals; Knowledge of pesticide and custodial equipment and operating procedures; Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations for pesticide and herbicide usage; Good judgment skills; Ability to identify and resolve problems; Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USAGE:
Use office machines such as copiers or calculators; Use computers for data entry; or handle, use, or repair of pesticide and custodial equipment; operate, install, test or inspect pesticide and custodial equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
