Position Summary
The Survey Technician – Construction Land Surveying role provides advanced technical support for active construction projects, including survey calculations, boundary analysis, field data processing, QA/QC, and coordination with CAD and field teams.
This position supports licensed surveyors and construction operations leadership by ensuring accurate, complete, and construction-ready survey deliverables. The role plays a key part in keeping projects on schedule and resolving technical issues before they reach the field.
This is primarily an office-based position with frequent collaboration across field operations, CAD, and project management teams.
Schedule & Location
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Occasional weekend work during peak construction season
- Office-based role (Houston-area location)
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with construction operations leadership, licensed surveyors, and field teams to support construction survey activities
- Prepare calculation maps, control layouts, and field documentation for construction staking and layout
- Review deeds, plats, easements, title commitments, and research packages for construction impacts
- Process and adjust conventional and GPS survey data (horizontal and vertical)
- Perform boundary analysis and build subject and adjoining parcels in CAD
- Review field data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements
- Provide technical direction and calculations to CAD staff for final deliverables
- Conduct preliminary QA/QC reviews prior to licensed surveyor approval
- Identify constructability issues, conflicts, or gaps and proactively coordinate resolutions
- Maintain consistency in drafting standards, point coding, and construction workflows
- Support CAD staff with technical guidance during high-volume periods
- Communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams and external partners
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and professional standards
Required Skills & Experience
- 2 years of experience as a survey technician in construction and/or commercial land surveying
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Construction staking support
- Boundary analysis
- Survey calculations and adjustments
- CAD-based survey workflows
- Ability to manage multiple active projects independently
- Experience coordinating between field crews, CAD teams, and licensed surveyors
- Proficiency with survey software, CAD platforms, and cloud-based project tools
- High attention to detail with a production-focused mindset
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or associate degree preferred
- Valid driver’s license may be required
