The Surgical Technician plays a critical role in supporting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals before, during, and after surgical procedures. This position ensures a sterile environment, prepares surgical instruments, and assists in delivering high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Set up surgical tables and ensure all tools are available and functioning
- Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and supplies
- Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols
- Monitor and track surgical instruments, sponges, and supplies during procedures
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure efficient workflow
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation prior to surgery
- Clean and restock operating rooms after procedures
- Collaborate with surgical team members to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred or required depending on state regulations
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- At least 2 years of prior experience in an operating room
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong commitment to patient safety and quality care
