Job Summary:
The IT Project Manager plays a key role in leading and delivering technology projects from initiation through completion. This position requires a strong blend of project management expertise and technical understanding to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives. In addition to traditional project management responsibilities, this role will be actively involved in eliciting, documenting, and managing business and technical requirements by collaborating closely with stakeholders and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Project Planning and Management:
• Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
• Develop comprehensive project plans that cover all project management phases including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closing.
• Develop detailed work plans, schedules, and estimates.
• Monitor project progress against milestones and budgets while conducting risk analysis.
• Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
Business Requirements:
• Collaborates with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and end users to gather and define clear, actionable business requirements.
• Leads requirement-gathering sessions such as interviews, workshops, and brainstorming meetings to capture business needs.
• Translates high-level business objectives into detailed functional and non-functional requirements.
• Documents and validates requirements to ensure alignment with project goals and stakeholder expectations
• Acts as a liaison between business units and technical teams to ensure requirements are accurately understood and implemented
• Continuously engages with stakeholders to refine requirements and manage changes throughout the project lifecycle
• Supports the creation of use cases, process flows, and business rules to clarify requirements and drive solution design.
Resource Coordination:
• Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
• Coordinate and manage resources, including team members, and external vendors.
Stakeholder Communication:
• Communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
• Provide technical and analytical guidance to project teams, ensuring effective teamwork and communication.
• Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis and manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
• Prepare and present project reports, proposals, and documentation to stakeholders and senior management.
Risk Management:
• Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Manage and resolve project issues and escalate them as necessary.
Quality Assurance:
• Ensure project deliverables meet quality standards and are delivered on time.
• Ensure artifacts are collected for testing and deployment.
• Conduct post-project evaluations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Vendor Management:
• Manage integration of vendor tasks and oversee vendor deliverables when applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Project Management, or General Business Management is typical. Equivalent IT experience may also be acceptable.
• 3-5 years of project management experience in an IT environment is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies.
• Proficiency with project management software (e.g., ServiceNow, MS Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, VISIO, Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Work, Presentations or equivalent).
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under pressure.
• Certification - State of Kansas PMM Certification within 12 months of hire date.
