What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Retail Growth Specialist position at AMPed Education?
AMPed Discovery Play Space is seeking a part-time Retail Growth Specialist to build and maintain a small, thoughtfully curated boutique retail area within our sensory-friendly play space. Our priority is simple and practical: increase retail sales by offering beautiful, developmentally appropriate products that our families will love.
This role focuses on sourcing, merchandising, and basic online product management—with all purchases run through leadership for approval.
Key Responsibilities
Product Sourcing & Curation
- Research and identify new children’s products aligned with our brand aesthetic (neutral colors, sensory-friendly textures, open-ended play).
- Select items families of children ages 0–6 are likely to buy—practical, calming, high-quality products.
- Locate vendors willing to support small play spaces, including consignment arrangements to reduce upfront inventory costs.
- Present weekly curated product recommendations with wholesale pricing, margins, vendor notes, and photos.
- Monitor trends in early childhood retail (Montessori, sensory-friendly, small-batch handmade items).
Retail Merchandising
- Develop simple, cohesive display concepts for our two retail areas:
- The entryway display
- A small ~8x10 retail room
- Periodically refresh product displays to highlight new arrivals or seasonal themes.
- Maintain a clean, minimalist, inviting boutique atmosphere consistent with AMPed’s calming aesthetic.
Online Retail Management
- Add and update products on our retail website (descriptions, pricing, categories).
- Suggest improvements to product presentation and online organization.
- Ensure all items available onsite are also available online.
What Success Looks Like
- Increased monthly retail sales.
- Displays that consistently attract parent attention at check-in and check-out.
- A curated product mix that reflects our sensory-friendly, inclusive approach.
- A clear identity for AMPed’s boutique retail experience.
- More SKUs on the shelves with good margins and reasonable turnover.
Qualifications
- Experience in boutique retail, merchandising, children’s products, or sensory-friendly/Montessori-inspired items preferred.
- Strong aesthetic judgement—color palettes, textures, materials, and display cohesion.
- Ability to research products thoroughly and present curated options.
- Light experience with e-commerce product listings (or willingness to learn quickly).
- Comfortable working independently with limited supervision.
Hours & Compensation
- 20–25 hours/month (approximately 5–6 hours/week).
- Flexible schedule — primarily remote with occasional onsite display refreshes.
- $20–$25/hour, depending on experience.
Ideal Candidate Persona
- Has previously worked in a boutique, kids’ shop, museum store, Montessori shop, or sensory-friendly environment.
- Loves curation and has a natural instinct for selecting visually pleasing, developmentally appropriate, calming products.
- Enjoys discovering new vendors, makers, and small shops.
- Appreciates early childhood development and sensory-friendly environments.
- Takes pride in making small retail spaces feel special, cohesive, and inviting.
