What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children's Services Support Specialist position at Amos House?
Childcare Staff — After School & Saturdays
$20.00 / hour · Part-Time, 20–24 hours per week · Providence, RI
Amos House Family Shelter · 100 Randall Street
The schedule
Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings, plus Saturdays (at least four hours) No overnights. About 20 to 24 hours a week, on a set schedule we build with you.
What you’d do
Amos House runs a shelter on Randall Street — more than 50 families and more than 100 kids. You would be one of the adults those children count on.
You’d run the play space, help with homework, set up activities, and get kids out to the zoo, the museum, and free events around the city. Some days that looks like a craft table. Some days it’s sitting with a third grader through a math worksheet. Some days it’s driving a family to practice, or helping a mom get her room organized before a housing appointment.
You’ll work alongside our Children’s Services Coordinator. She sets the plan — you help make it happen.
What we need from you
- Experience with kids — daycare, camp, coaching, a church nursery, tutoring, or raising your own. We care that you’re good with children, not where you learned it.
- Patience, warmth, and no judgment. Every family here is working through something hard.
- A valid driver’s license, registration, and insurance — you’ll occasionally drive families to activities.
- Able to lift up to 35 pounds and keep up with active kids.
- A background check. We hire people with criminal records — that is not a dealbreaker here. Because this job is directly with kids, some convictions do disqualify. Most do not. If you are not sure where you stand, apply and ask us.
Helpful, but not required
- Spanish — we’d really like to hear from you.
- Experience with families who have been unhoused.
- Background in after-school programs or early childhood education.
