Job Description & Requirements
Vice President Chief Operating Officer
StartDate: ASAP
OSF Saint Francis, a major hub of innovation and technology, is a main teaching affiliate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. It is also home to OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute and OSF HealthCare Illinois Neurological Institute, offering comprehensive health care to the Peoria community. OSF Saint Francis is the founding hospital of the Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis. As an acute care hospital, OSF Saint Francis is the area’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and tertiary care medical center.
Following the evolution of prior leadership structure and the elevation of the Chief Strategy Officer into the CEO role, OSF Saint Francis is re-establishing a dedicated Chief Operating Officer (COO) to bring focused, senior-level operational leadership to a rapidly expanding and increasingly complex enterprise. The organization is investing heavily in programmatic growth across cardiovascular, neurosciences, oncology, and children’s services, alongside significant campus redevelopment, ambulatory expansion, and innovation initiatives.
The COO will serve as the architect and executor of the “Destination OSF” strategy, translating vision into disciplined operational roadmaps, scalable infrastructure, and measurable outcomes.
Over the next 12–24 months, the COO will lead critical priorities that directly impact ministry sustainability and regional growth. This executive will operate within a highly matrixed, ministry-wide system structure, partnering closely with regional and system leadership. The role carries direct and matrix oversight of surgical and procedural services, ambulatory and ancillary operations, logistics and patient flow, business support services, and key physician enterprise contracts. The COO will manage significant operating and capital budgets while ensuring disciplined stewardship of resources in alignment with OSF’s Catholic mission and long-term financial chassis. Importantly, this is not a developmental COO role. OSF seeks a seasoned executive with progressive operations leadership experience in complex tertiary or quaternary environments and prior executive-level accountability
The Selected COO Will Possess (not Limited To)
