The Opportunity
AMN Healthcare is partnering with Ochsner Health who seeks a new System Chair of Palliative Medicine. The Chair will have both operational and strategic oversight and accountability for Palliative Medicine for all aspects of Ochsner Health.
The Ochsner Health System has expanded dramatically in recent years with expanding partnerships across the state of Louisiana and Mississippi as well as an intentional focus on more subspecialized care. The system chair oversees all academic and teaching components carried out by Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care and ensures the highest level of clinical quality and patient safety. There is opportunity to drive consistency and alignment amongst all palliative medicine services in the inpatient and ambulatory settings. The new chair will also contribute to developing a strategic plan for programmatic growth at Ochsner.

Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans is the system’s flagship academic medical center located at 1514 Jefferson Highway in Jefferson, Louisiana just outside the city limits of New Orleans. The hospital currently has 767 acute care beds and is completely accredited by the Joint Commission of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care
The Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care Program at Ochsner Health is recognized as a leader and the quaternary care facility in New Orleans has the only Joint Commission certified program in the Gulf South. The Palliative Medicine team consists of 14 physicians and 14 advanced practice professionals who practice across the entire breadth of the specialty-inpatient consultation, outpatient consultation as well as hospice. In addition, Ochsner Health serves as a training site for the Ochsner Palliative Medicine and Supportive Care fellowship training program.

The Position
- Maintain a strategic and innovative mindset to guide the growth of Palliative Medicine and ensure the ability to meet the needs of patients and care teams.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of efficient and effective clinical operations, including inpatient and ambulatory settings, and promotion of collaborative work relationships between clinicians at all levels.
- Achieving high performance through commitment to evidence-based palliative care, process improvement and the development of a quality improvement program.
- Actively involved in advancing standards of professionalism, including work in local and state and national organizations.
- Proven leadership skills and a 5-year history of accomplishments in complex organizational setting
- Current board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine in collaboration with other qualifying boards is required
- Current license, or eligible for medical license, in the state of Louisiana and Mississippi
- Ability to obtain credentials within Ochsner Health and interest in maintaining clinical practice
