Ames Community School District is seeking an Elementary School Nurse for the 2026-27 school year.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Provides primary and emergency care to minimize the effects of accidents and illness in the schools.
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates student health care needs to develop individualized health care plans.
- Communicates with administration and other staff regarding student health care needs.
- Initiates the health referral process and serves as liaison between school, home and community.
- Assists with crisis intervention for students, families and staff.
- Provides individual and group health counseling/health education.
- Collaborates with educational and AEA teams by completing health history and assessment of students for evaluation of educational programming.
- Obtains and evaluates student records for compliance with State Immunization Laws.
- Conducts health screenings to identify conditions which may affect learning.
- Maintains student health records.
- Consults with school administration to establish, review and revise policies and procedures for a comprehensive school health program.
- Arranges in-services programs for school personnel for Bloodborne Pathogens, First-Aid, emergency care procedures, medication administration, and current health issues.
- Determines training of educational assistants, extent of orientation, and amount and type of supervision that will be needed to comply with state Nurse Practice Act and other legal considerations.
- Ability to perform work while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to work in an environment in which employees may be exposed to contagious diseases, with appropriate PPE, disinfecting, and other reasonable health protective measures.
Qualifications:
- Education: B.A./B.S. Degree
- Certification: A valid State of Iowa Registered Nurse License and current CPR certification.
- Experience: Two years of nursing experience preferred.
