The Ames Community School District is seeking a Head Custodian for Ames High School.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; 12 months (year round)

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Performs routine custodial duties, including cleaning classrooms, cafeteria, restrooms, offices, etc.
• Prepares facilities for evening and weekend use including rentals
• Trains custodians on work tasks and procedures
• Performs inspections of work areas
• Cleans carpets and cares for vinyl tile and terrazzo floors by stripping, sealing, and waxing
• Ensures that district safety policies and procedures are followed and violations or concerns are reported immediately
• Secures the building and performs lock-up duties
• Develops and communicates work assignments to substitute custodians
• Performs snow removal by shoveling and operating an ATV with a plow and salt spreader
• Inputs work orders to ensure the facility and all components of the building are in good working order
• Organizes the schedule for summer cleaning
• Creates a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students and staff
• Attends work on a consistent and punctual basis
• Performs other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

• Ability to frequently perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, shoveling, and moving items up to 50 pounds. such as furniture, trash, and bags of ice melt
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, changing assignments with short notice
• Effectively utilizes computers to enter work orders, manage email, and submit timesheets and absences
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
• Eagerness to learn and assist other team members
• Manages time effectively and stays highly organized
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision
• Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing

Compensation: $18.65 per hour
