Overview
The School Nurse supports the health and well-being of students in Preschool through 8th grade by providing direct health services, managing student health records, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. Duties
- Conduct thorough health assessments and monitor students' vital signs to identify health concerns promptly.
- Administer medications, injections, and first aid treatments following established protocols and HIPAA regulations to ensure student safety.
- Manage medical documentation accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining detailed records of treatments and incidents.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions or special needs.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies, including trauma or acute illness, utilizing Level I Trauma Center experience and emergency medicine skills to stabilize students.
- Educate staff and students on health topics such as hygiene, infectious disease prevention, and wellness practices to foster a healthy school environment.
- Maintain compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA privacy standards and infection control procedures.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license with current registration; experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred but not required.
