What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Ameritex Machine & Fabrication?
About Ameritex
Ameritex is a fast-growing metal fabrication company specializing in generator enclosures, industrial electrical enclosures, structural weldments, and turnkey fabricated assemblies. We serve customers in power generation, infrastructure, oil & gas, renewable energy, and industrial markets.
We are expanding our estimating team and seeking a Mechanical Estimator who understands 3D models, sheet-metal fabrication processes, and the unique challenges of high-mix, low-volume manufacturing. This is a career estimator role, not a temporary engineering stepping stone.
Position Summary
The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for reviewing customer drawings, models, and specifications and producing accurate, timely quotes using Paperless Parts. This role requires a blend of mechanical understanding, fabrication knowledge, and strong attention to detail.
You will analyze parts, identify manufacturing steps, build accurate routings, and collaborate with engineering and production to ensure quotes reflect real manufacturability and shop capability.
Responsibilities
Estimating & Model Interpretation
- Review 3D models, drawings, assemblies, and specifications in Paperless Parts
- Break down complex fabricated assemblies into manufacturable components
- Identify fabrication processes required (cutting, bending, welding, hardware, machining, coating)
- Analyze weldments, sheet-metal parts, and structural components for cost drivers
- Interpret GD&T, tolerances, and customer notes that impact pricing
Quoting & Cost Analysis
- Build accurate BOMs and routings within Paperless Parts
- Apply correct manufacturing times, materials, hardware, and outsourced services
- Review historical data, runouts, and standard shop rates to ensure competitive pricing
- Communicate assumptions, risks, and alternates clearly
- Ensure quotes meet internal accuracy and turnaround-time standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with engineering on manufacturability questions and alternative design suggestions
- Coordinate with production on capacity, lead time, and specialty processes
- Collaborate with project managers and sales on customer requirements and timelines
- Participate in win/loss reviews and continuous improvement of estimating accuracy
Process Discipline & Standardization
- Follow Ameritex estimating workflows to ensure consistency
- Help maintain estimating templates, rate structures, and standard operating procedures
- Identify recurring issues and propose refinements to improve speed and accuracy
