What are the responsibilities and job description for the 26-27 Mediation Specialist - Greenbelt, MD position at AmeriCorps?
Prince George's Community Collaborative Resolution Center (PGCCRC) ensures that Prince George’s County residents have free access to high-quality community mediation services. Community mediation provides an opportunity for people in conflict to have difficult conversations with the help of non-judgmental mediators. Mediation allows everyone involved to talk about their experiences, be heard by one another, and establish a plan for moving forward productively. PGCCRC mediates interpersonal, family, neighbor, business, workplace, and landlord/tenant disputes, as well as parenting plans, truancy issues, Independent Education Plans (IEPs), and large-group facilitations. PGCCRC utilizes its partnership with Prince George's County Community Schools to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline by providing Student-to-Student and Attendance mediations and IEP facilitation. PGCCRC also partners with the District Court of Maryland’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Office, providing pre-file, pre-trial, and day-of-trial mediations, redefining how residents engage with the court system and how they choose to resolve disputes. PGCCRC also works with the State’s Attorney's Office (SAO), receiving pre-trial referrals of criminal misdemeanor cases. PGCCRC works with other community organizations to provide free workshops and trainings, teaching collaborative communication skills. In addition, PGCCRC has several youth initiatives - Jr. Mediation Ambassador Training, Collaborative Decision-Making Training, and Intergenerational Basic Mediation Training - teaching young people to adopt the language of collaboration, in place of the language of violence. This program is available to all without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, marital or parental status, pregnancy, genetic information, or military service. All positions are pending grant approval.
