Americom Technologies LLC is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team in our OSP Department. The OSP Department is responsible for underground infrastructure placing conduit, fiber, and copper to support telecommunications, data networks, and fire mitigation.

JOB SUMMARY
The General Laborer supports underground utility and fiber optic construction crews by performing a variety of physical tasks and site-related duties to ensure safe, timely, and efficient job completion. This role requires strong physical endurance, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively under direct supervision in dynamic outdoor environments. The General Laborer plays a key role in jobsite preparation, maintenance, equipment handling, and assisting with fiber optic placement and fiber blowing operations to support daily field operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform general construction labor including site preparation, trenching, backfilling, raking, and restoration.
- Assist with fiber optic cable placement, pulling, and installation in conduit, handholes, vaults, and underground pathways.
- Support fiber blowing operations, including setup, breakdown, and monitoring of fiber blowing equipment under supervision.
- Safely load, unload, and transport tools, materials, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Operate a range of hand tools and power tools for construction, demolition, fiber installation and maintenance work.
- Assist equipment operators and crew members with utility and fiber optic installation tasks.
- Follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors, ensuring work is completed to specification.
- Complete daily housekeeping and clean-up tasks at job sites, yards, and company facilities.
- Support a Safety First culture by participating in daily job hazard analysis (JHA), site inspections, and adherence to safety protocols including fiber-specific handling and installation requirements.
- Use Tyfoom for daily safety training as directed by the Foreman.
- Comply with OSHA/MSHA standards, DOT and traffic control requirements, and state utility locate laws.
- Assist with equipment, vehicle, and fiber installation tool inspections, maintenance, and recordkeeping.
- Participate in on-the-job and formal training programs, including classroom, online, and field instruction related to fiber optics and underground utilities.
- Conduct utility locate verifications and contribute to damage prevention efforts.
- Pressure wash vehicles and equipment and perform general upkeep of tools, fiber blowing equipment, and storage areas.
- Deliver and retrieve materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
- Read and understand basic equipment manuals and assist with technology (e.g., GPS or grade control systems).
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism and customer service on all job sites.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support underground utility and fiber optic field operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- General experience on a construction site preferred, fiber optic or utility experience a plus.
- Must be physically capable of lifting up to 80 lbs. and performing strenuous labor for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, and other challenging environments.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work in confined spaces, manholes, trenches, tunnels, and crawlspaces and fiber vaults/handholds.
- Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and Level 4 background check.
- Commitment to confidentiality, safety, and adherence to company policies.
- A customer-focused mindset with a strong work ethic and team-first attitude.
CERTIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30
- Class A CDL
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Outdoor work in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.)
- Exposure to loud noise, heavy equipment, dust, fumes, and active construction environments.
- Travel between multiple job sites as required.
- Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Stand, walk, and perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods.
- Climb ladders, enter trenches, vaults, manholes, and confined spaces.
- May be required to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends depending on project needs.
