Insurance Liaison

The Insurance Liaison is responsible for ensuring clients maintain active and accurate insurance coverage throughout their treatment episode. This role serves as a liaison between clients, insurance carriers, marketplace plans, county agencies, and ARC departments to facilitate insurance verification, coordination of benefits, coverage maintenance, and documentation requirements. The Insurance Liaison assists clients in resolving insurance-related issues, preventing lapses in coverage, and ensuring all insurance information is accurate and current to support uninterrupted access to care. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Verify client insurance eligibility and benefits prior to admission and throughout treatment  

• Conduct insurance audits to ensure coverage remains active and identify any lapses or discrepancies  

• Complete and maintain Verification of Benefits (VOB) documentation  

• Assist clients with insurance renewals, extensions, reinstatements, and eligibility updates  

• Coordinate and maintain accurate Coordination of Benefits (COB) information  

• Assist clients with cancellation of Marketplace plans when appropriate to ensure proper insurance coordination  

• Assist clients with obtaining and submitting insurance documentation through county, state, and insurance portals  

• Help clients establish and maintain access to DCS and other electronic systems required for document submission  

• Communicate with insurance carriers, government agencies, and healthcare partners regarding eligibility and coverage matters  

• Collaborate with Admissions, Billing, Utilization Review, and Clinical departments regarding insurance-related concerns  

• Ensure timely processing of insurance information and supporting documentation  

• Maintain accurate records and documentation in EMR systems  

• Monitor insurance status throughout treatment to minimize disruptions in care  

• Educate clients regarding insurance coverage, benefits, and responsibilities  

• Ensure all insurance information, VOBs, and COBs remain accurate and up to date  

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES 

• Must be motivated to work with minimal supervision  

• Knowledge of recovery and co-occurring disorders  

• Basic understanding of substance abuse and mental health treatment services  

• Ability to navigate complex insurance and government benefit systems  

• Experience in crisis intervention and conflict resolution preferred  

• Ability to work with both male and female population  

• Ability to multi-task and work well with team members  

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills  

• Ability to advocate for clients while maintaining professional boundaries  

• Understanding of insurance verification, eligibility determination, Coordination of Benefits (COB), and Verification of Benefits (VOB) processes  

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required 

• Ability to work with 18 years and over substance abuse/dual diagnosed population  

• Excellent customer service skills and knowledge of insurance plans, eligibility requirements, and community resources  

• Must possess excellent written and spoken English language skills  

• Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record  

• 1-2 years of experience in healthcare administration, insurance verification, admissions, billing, or related field preferred  

• Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, Marketplace, and Commercial insurance plans preferred  

• CPR/FA Certification – to be obtained within first 30 days if required for position 

• Fingerprint Clearance Card – have current card or show proof of applying within 7 days from hire date if required for position 

• Handle with Care – to be obtained within first 30 days if required for position 

• Successful clearance of pre-employment criminal/county/state background check 

• Successful clearance of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing 

• Successful clearance of TB PPD testing upon hire and annual screening of TB symptoms 

• Attending clinical oversight with BHP once every 2 weeks worked for a minimum of 2 sessions per month.
