American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Trauma ICU position at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details- 13-week contract in an 18-bed Trauma ICU within an acute care hospital setting, the only Level 1 trauma center in the system
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients 15 years old presenting with various trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, and cardiac arrest — with a high volume of transfers and ED admits
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1–2 in ICU and 1:4 in PCU
- Specialized equipment includes CVPs, IABP, Impella, A-lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll-Thermoguard (hypothermia protocol), and Belmont rapid transfuser — training available for some devices
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilators
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs are required to independently read and interpret cardiac strips
- Charting is done in Epic
- 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830
- Self-scheduling available, managed by the manager based on unit needs
- 4 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period
- Floating required to inpatient units, excluding Maternity/NICU
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility, as verified by a valid driver's license
- A driver's license is required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- No active or recent direct employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Fast-paced unit caring for critically ill patients; critical thinking, a positive attitude, and strong teamwork are key to success in this role
- A charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs are available on the unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result to contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Manager interview required for this position
- RTO must be declared upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract will be considered, and additional RTO will not be approved
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
