Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position at a Level II trauma facility in North Dakota, requiring a minimum of 3 years of LDRP experience and current AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification.

Details
  • Acute care hospital setting with a dedicated LDRP unit, including 7 L&D beds, 12 postpartum beds, 8 surgical beds, 1 dedicated C-section OR, 2 GYN surgical ORs, and a 3-bay triage area
  • Patient population includes obstetric, antepartum, triage, and postpartum patients (vaginal and C-section), as well as MgSO4 and pre-eclampsia cases, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, and surgical cases including hysterectomy, bladder repairs, and mastectomies; accepts patients 23 weeks gestation
  • AWHONN staffing ratios followed: L&D 1:1–2, Postpartum 1:2–3 couplets, Surgical/Medical 1:3–4
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Mag, and occasional insulin drips; commonly administered medications include Procardia, Labetalol push, TXA, Methergine, Hemabate, Cytotec, and Cervidil
  • RNs are expected to scrub for procedures; an OB scrub tech is scheduled Monday–Friday on days
  • GE/Corometrics EFM system in use (8 of the 129 & 5 of the 259 CA-X series and 2 of the older 128 series)
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a) on a 13-week contract
  • Every third weekend required; holiday coverage as needed
  • First-to-float requirement; floating may include Peds MS, NICU (feeder-growers), Med/Surg, PCU, ICU, ED, or Psych units as 1:1 sitter or helping hands
  • No on-call or standby requirement; optional overtime opportunities available
  • Schedule is built 6 weeks in advance with consideration for sleep schedules; manager creates the schedule with block scheduling flexibility
Requirements
  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring; AWHONN Advanced preferred; S.T.A.B.L.E. also required
  • Minimum 3 years of LDRP experience required
  • Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin, Mag, insulin) required
  • Scrubbing experience preferred
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Valid driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Triage participation is allowed for travelers based on experience
  • RNs are expected to read telemetry during Phase 1 recovery for C-sections only; remote tele monitoring is infrequent and a monitor tech is available for remote tele patients
  • OB is on call 24/7; Neonatology is on call 24/7 with an NNP on-site overnight; anesthesia is in-house 24/7
  • Charge nurse is present on every shift and takes an assignment; travelers are not expected to serve as charge
  • Unit support includes a unit clerk, and occasional nurse techs (nursing students); surgical scrubs are provided
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 2×12-hour shifts on the LDRP unit
  • First-time travelers are welcome; candidates are expected to be independent and ready to contribute quickly
  • Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel pay rates
  • RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; no additional RTO will be approved after submission
