Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring 2 years of recent RN experience, ACLS certification, and the ability to pass an EKG/dysrhythmia exam.
Details
- 29-bed Intermediate Care unit (2E) in a hospital setting, with capacity to expand to 37 beds (including 8 semi-private rooms)
- Patient population includes CKD, DM, CHF, UTI, GI bleeds, respiratory failure/COPD/pneumonia, and sepsis
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3–5
- Support staff includes Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) and a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
- Equipment used includes telemetry monitors, wound vacs, warming blankets, IV pumps, and PCA pumps
- Primary EMR is Epic; additional systems include PerfectServe and Dimensions
- 12-hour day shifts
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Floating to other MS/Tele units is required
Requirements
- Active RN license — VA state license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience required
- Experience with critical thinking, communication, time management, electronic documentation, oxygen therapy, medication administration, wound care/dressing changes, vital signs, IV insertion, NG tube management, and recognizing early signs of patient deterioration
- Experience with advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation and knowledge of cardiac drips preferred
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Proof of address required for consideration (e.g., driver's license, voter registration card, federal tax return, military Form 2058, or W2 from U.S. government)
- 1 supervisory reference required for consideration
- Full SSN and DOB (MM/DD) required for consideration
- Copy of certifications required for consideration
- Nursys license verification required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- A pass/fail EKG/dysrhythmia exam is administered on the first day, with two attempts allowed — a study guide will be provided
- Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, developing and implementing plans of care, administering medications, and coordinating care across the interdisciplinary team
- Nurses are expected to manage patients with multi-system conditions and recognize early signs of deterioration
- Care responsibilities may include chest tube management, hemodynamic monitoring, and administration of conscious sedation
- Work environment may involve periods of high stress, fluctuating workloads, and exposure to infectious materials — universal precautions and PPE are required
- BSN preferred
- CCRN or PCCN certification preferred
- Adult and geriatric patient population (ages 18 and older)
