American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification for a 48-hour/week night shift contract.
Details- Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds, divided into pods covering MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU — travelers would not float to the CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases with a heavy trauma volume; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
- Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are reserved for permanent staff
- Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), depending on acuity
- Charting is done in Epic (required); facility also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to adult floors including Med/Surg and Tele (1:4 ratio) is possible but uncommon, typically only when overstaffed
- Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
- Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant non-ICU RN experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not eligible; a minimum of one prior completed travel assignment is required
- Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning in a travel capacity
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift on the ICU
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and physician coverage with 3 intensivists on days and 2 on nights plus an APP overnight
- May occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrubs required
- No RTO is permitted during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (typically the first three weeks of August)
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, but assignment must be extended to accommodate the full 13-week contract
