Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN with orthopedic and neuro surgical experience for a 4x10-hour day shift position in a general OR setting.
Details
- General OR setting with 17 operating rooms
- Serves a patient population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics
- Orthopedic and neuro surgical cases including arthroscopy, total joint replacement, craniotomy, spinal fusions (ALIF, XLIF, lumbar, anterior cervical), laminectomy/discectomy, kyphoplasty, and closed reduction of fractures
- Vascular cases including open and endovascular procedures
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1
- Day shift scheduled 4x10-hour shifts (12:30–23:00)
- Epic EMR used; experience preferred
- Pyxis medication dispensing system used
- 6 on-call shifts required over the course of the contract
- Weekend requirements depend on shift assignment
Requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required
- Orthopedic and neuro surgical experience required
- Vascular (open and endovascular) experience required
- Ability to circulate and perform conscious sedation monitoring required
- Trauma experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Copies of all required certifications must be provided for consideration
- Two supervisory references (Manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) are highly preferred for consideration

- Former permanent, per diem, or float pool staff must have been away from all facilities within this health system for a minimum of 1 full year before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who previously canceled or received a do-not-return designation must complete one successful assignment outside of this health system before reapplying
- RTO must be finalized prior to acceptance of an offer; no RTO or schedule requests will be accepted after offer or upon arrival onsite
- Maximum RTO is 7 days per contract; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
- Holiday coverage policy: if 1 or 2 major holidays fall during the assignment, travelers are expected to work all of them with no holiday RTO permitted; if 3 major holidays fall during the assignment, travelers are expected to work 2, and 1 holiday RTO request may be considered
- Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday (counts as 1), Christmas Eve/Day (counts as 1), and New Year's Eve/Day (counts as 1)
- All compliance documents must be submitted by the Tuesday prior to the start date; failure to comply may result in a two-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
- Candidates undergo a clinical pre-screening review before being forwarded to the hiring manager
