Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position with required stepdown/PCU float experience, serving a diverse patient population including pediatrics and stroke patients.
Details
- Day shift position in a Med/Surg unit within a community hospital setting
- Patient population spans all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
- Common diagnoses include stroke, hyperglycemia, chest pain, AMS, renal failure, AFib, and a broad range of general medical conditions
- Unit operates as a Stroke Unit with pediatric patients also on census
- Specialized equipment includes a teleneuro cart
- Patient ratios are 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights and weekends
- Charting is done in Meditech (experience preferred but not required)
- Schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, floating, and holidays as needed
- Floating is required within the hospital; candidates should be comfortable with a high frequency of floating to the PCU unit
Requirements
- Active SC RN license or compact license valid in SC required
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
- Stepdown/PCU experience required due to float responsibilities
- Clean license with no background hits β the facility will not accept any license or background issues
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Required skills include IV therapy, blood and blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, TPN/Lipids, NG tube management, urinary catheter insertion/management, wound care, insulin administration, anti-seizure medications, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and isolation/infection prevention precautions
- Preferred skills include telemetry remote monitoring, BiPAP/CPAP management, pediatric dosage calculations, post cardiac catheterization care, and PEWS/Rapid Response Team experience
- Holiday coverage required for New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
- COVID-19 and flu vaccines are required; medical and religious exemptions and declinations are allowed
- Approximately 8 hours of self-reported online modules must be completed prior to or during orientation
- Orientation is 24 hours
- Only 1 pre-approved time off request is permitted per contract; RTO must be approved prior to assignment start and is strongly discouraged in the first weeks
- Former employees must have been gone for at least 1 year and must have left in good standing to be eligible
