Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel assignment at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit (5S) at a Level II Trauma hospital
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology cases (travelers will not administer chemotherapy)
- Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6 on both days and nights; ratios may occasionally reach 1:7 near end of shift depending on acuity
- Charge nurse present on all units; day charge does not take patients, night charge does
- CNAs available on all units
- Phillips telemetry monitoring used; monitor techs are available on most units but RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and manages CPAP/BiPAP; RNs perform aerosols for non-vented patients and EKGs
- IV Team available house-wide until 10 PM Mon–Fri and until 3:30 PM on weekends
- In-house pharmacy 24/7 with Accudose medication dispensing
- Charting via Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (7 PM – 7 AM)
- Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday, both days and nights)
- Holidays worked on a rotation schedule with permanent staff
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV RN license or a valid Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- 1–2 orientation shifts with a preceptor provided
- If floated to Critical Care, travelers will be assigned med/surg or stepdown-level patients only
- Manager is open to traveler requests to work primarily on unit 6N and will make efforts to accommodate block scheduling
- Royal blue scrubs required; no false nails permitted
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than a cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- Two professional references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference
- Skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
