Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN with MS/Tele experience for a night shift position requiring a NY license and Epic proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg Tele unit
• Night shifts, three 12-hour shifts per week, 19:00 to 07:00
• Patient population includes cases of acute respiratory failure, CHF, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, sepsis, pulmonary fibrosis, and ILD
• Staff-to-patient ratios are 5:1 (evenings, may stretch to 6-7:1) and 6-7:1 (nights, may stretch to 8-9:1)
• Floating required but only within scope of practice
• Rapid response team activation may be required
• Specialized equipment includes BIPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, chronic ventilators, trach, and chest tubes
• Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience required
• Every other weekend and occasional on-call shifts required
• Block scheduling requests will be considered but are not guaranteed
• Responsibilities include pre/post hemodialysis management, administration of blood products, feeding tube care, PCA, substance withdrawal management, surgical drain care, and non-invasive airway management
• Support staff includes PCTs for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and daily living activities
• Phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws; nurses responsible for PICC and central lines
• First time travelers are welcome to apply if Epic experience is met
• Scrub color is navy blue or white
• Initial orientation is 4 hours in classroom plus pre-start modules and unit shadowing
• Time off requests should be limited to approximately one week
• Return staff must have at least one year since previous employment
  
  

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required at time of submission
• A minimum of 1 year recent MS/Tele experience
• Current BLS certification required
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficient in central and peripheral line management, IV insertion, insulin and heparin protocols, ventilator and tracheostomy care, and wound/vac care
• No local candidates within a 75 mile radius accepted
