American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1 year of PCU or telemetry experience and proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and vasoactive drip titration.
Details- 56-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an inpatient hospital setting
- Adult patient population with diverse diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM/DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremors
- RN patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Telemetry (days and nights)
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required — approximately every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- Floating required in rotation with other travelers to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (experience-dependent), and Observation
- Epic EMR used (experience preferred)
- Alaris infusion pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems used
- Centralized telemetry monitoring available 24/7 for tele reading and alarm notifications
- Pre-shift huddles required at 6:25 AM or 6:25 PM in the 7th floor conference room
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN experience required
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Proficiency in vasoactive and cardiac drip titration required (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and occasionally Esmolol or other beta-blockers/antihypertensives)
- Skills required: IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips (DKA and non-DKA), continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible for this position
- 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:8 ratio), two free-floating charge nurses available 24/7, a flex resource RN, respiratory therapy 24/7, 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage, phlebotomy services 24/7 (peripheral draws only), and a violent incident response team
- Orientation consists of 2 days of in-class/online education followed by two 12-hour precepted shifts
- Every other holiday coverage required during the contracted timeframe
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved; no RTO permitted during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- PCU RNs may be expected to float to the ICU based on experience
- May occasionally be asked to precept students
- Monthly audits conducted for pre/post pain scoring — 90% compliance required
- RN scrub color is navy blue
- Free parking available on-site
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply with more than 2 years of RN experience
- Candidates who were previously permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
