American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring active SD or compact RN licensure and a minimum of 1 year of PCU experience.
Details- 56-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a hospital setting in Rapid City, SD
- Adult patient population with diverse diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM/DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens
- RN patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Telemetry (days and nights)
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required — every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) per 4-week schedule
- Holiday coverage expected for every other holiday during the contract period
- Floating required in rotation with other travelers to adult inpatient units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (experience-dependent), and Observation
- Epic EMR used; experience preferred
- Alaris and Omnicell equipment used
- Centralized telemetry monitoring available 24/7 for tele reading and alarm notifications
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN experience required
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip titration required, including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and occasional Esmolol or other beta-blocker/antihypertensive drips
- Skills required: IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips (DKA and non-DKA), continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Orientation consists of 2 days of in-class/online education followed by two 12-hour preceptored shifts
- Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurses (2 free-floating), 24/7 phlebotomy (peripheral draws only; RN responsible for central line draws), a flex Resource RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, 24/7 in-house hospitalist coverage, and a Violent Incident Response team
- Providers are contacted via paging system and secure chat
- Attendance at pre-shift huddle is required (0625 for nights) in the 7th floor conference room
- RNs may occasionally be asked to precept students
- Monthly audits are conducted for pre/post pain scoring — 90% compliance required
- RN scrub color is navy blue
- No RTO approved during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved outside of this period
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply with 2 or more years of RN experience
- Previously permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
