American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1 year of PCU or telemetry experience and proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and vasoactive drip titration.
Details- 56-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an inpatient hospital setting
- Adult patient population with diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM/DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens
- RN patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Tele (days and nights)
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required: every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday within the contracted timeframe
- Floating required within scope of practice in rotation with other travelers to units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, ICU (experience-dependent), and Observation
- Epic EMR (preferred); experience with Alaris and Omnicell also utilized
- Pre-shift huddles required at 0625 (nights) in the 7th floor conference room
- Active RN license — SD license or compact RN license currently in hand required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of PCU or telemetry RN experience required
- First-time travelers considered only with 2 years of RN experience
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Proficiency in vasoactive and cardiac drip titration required (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed); esmolol and other beta-blocker drips can be trained on-site
- Skills required: IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, insulin drips (DKA and non-DKA), continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Orientation consists of 2 days of in-class/online education followed by two 12-hour shifts with a preceptor
- Unit support includes 24/7 charge nurses (2 free-floating), 24/7 phlebotomy (peripheral draws), 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, a flex resource nurse, centralized telemetry monitoring, and a Violent Incident Response team
- Team nursing model is in use on the 6th floor Med/Surg cohort, where RNs may work alongside LPNs with some task-sharing within scope of practice
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Monthly pain scoring audits (Pre/Post) with a minimum 90% compliance required
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved; no RTO permitted during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August)
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
