American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details- 30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit at a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes those with acute and chronic diagnoses such as heart failure, A-fib, AKI/CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes, as well as post-op and post-cardiac procedure patients
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6, supported by LPNs and CNAs
- 12-hour day shifts, 7A–7P, with scheduling flexibility for some night shifts (7P–7A)
- Weekend rotation of 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required; travelers are expected to work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1)
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, and portable vital signs monitors
- Active GA or compact RN license currently in hand
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- Medical-Surgical nursing certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, central line management, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, titratable drips (HR, not BP), wound care, groin management, Foley insertion/care, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
- Experience in a Level 1 Trauma and/or teaching hospital setting preferred
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- CNAs assist with vitals, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, patient turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport; phlebotomy is lab-collected, with nurses drawing from central venous lines
- Unit secretary available 7A–11P; house-wide call secretary covers 11P–7A
- Charge nurse, resource team, and discharge nurses provide additional support on the unit
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7; central telemetry monitoring unit on-site
- PICC team available; no dedicated IV team
- Orientation consists of 1 day of educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- RTO requests require manager approval
- RNs are required to wear navy scrubs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
