American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position at a Level II Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Rapid City, SD, requiring Epic proficiency and a minimum of one prior travel assignment.
Details- Mixed ICU unit (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) with 39 beds at a Level II Trauma Center, Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center
- Complex ICU patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Cardiac experience is preferred, particularly CABG/TAVR 24–48 hrs post-op; fresh open-heart cases are assigned to permanent staff only
- Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with 1:3 occurring rarely and based on acuity
- 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
- EMR: Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
- Every-other-weekend rotation
- No on-call requirements
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor including Med/Surg or Tele at a 1:4 ratio when overstaffed
- Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license accepted
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start if not already held)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) plus significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic lines; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Minimum of one prior completed travel assignment required — first-time travelers will not be considered
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Provides critical care nursing to a high-acuity, mixed ICU population with a strong trauma focus
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift and one 8-hour shift on the ICU unit, plus hospital orientation
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, contingent on extending to complete a full 13-week contract
- Navy scrubs required; free parking is available on site
- Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler
