American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a mixed ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.
Details- 39-bed mixed ICU divided into pods, including MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Heavy trauma patient population; cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required
- Patient ratios are 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 (rare), based on acuity
- Frequent use of IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT is strongly preferred
- Charting in Epic (required); also uses Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell
- 12-hour night shifts at 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation (not guaranteed)
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to adult floors including Med/Surg or Tele (1:4 ratio) is uncommon but possible if overstaffed
- Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments, is strongly preferred
- Candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience (excluding travel) and significant RN experience outside the ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with vasopressors, sedation, paralytics, hemodynamic lines, ventilator management, proning, and telemetry
- Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- Unit is a mixed ICU divided into pods; travelers will not float to the CVICU side unless they have experience in that specialty
- Fresh open-heart cases are reserved for permanent staff; travelers will not be assigned to these patients unless the facility is comfortable with their experience level
- Support staff includes 1–2 CNAs per unit, a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), ICU charge RNs for midline placement, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and intensivist physician coverage
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
- No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, with the requirement to extend the contract to complete a full 13 weeks
- May occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
